In 1930s Paris, Brassaï walked the streets at night photographing the marks scratched into the walls — faces, hearts, names — and turned them into Graffiti, the first book ever devoted to the subject. Ninety years later, a water-damaged copy sits forgotten in a corner of the 0fr. bookshop, its pages stuck together. Rather than throw it out, Alexandre Thumerelle hands it to André Saraiva.
What follows is the book. In his studio above the Seine, André tears out around a hundred pages, lays them across the floor and paints over them: Mr. A meeting Brassaï's walls, one century of Paris graffiti answering another. André on Graffiti documents that single session, published as the 250th title from 0fr. — a Parisian bookshop and publisher that has spent thirty years making books out of exactly this kind of accident.
