Diego is nine years old; curious, restless, impossible to contain. School can rarely hold his energy, and he is often sent out of the classroom to sit alone. Yet in those quiet hours, surrounded by scraps of cardboard and discarded materials, Diego begins to map an inner universe: a flow of colors and shapes that reveal both wonder and unease. His drawings echo another world; the world of his neighborhood, of siblings and friends, of lives unfolding in the margins of Milan.
Le Monde Ou Rien brings together photographs made between 2019 and 2023 across the outskirts of the city: Quarto Oggiaro, San Siro, Barona, Cinisello, Rozzano, Bovisasca, Cerkovo, La Trecca, Piazza Prealpi, Corvetto. These are territories shaped by resourcefulness and ritual, by conflict, solidarity, celebration; places that briefly flare in the news cycle before slipping back into anonymity.
Through a raw and attentive visual language, the book traces the emotional and social landscapes of these communities, where everyday life becomes a negotiation of space, dignity, and imagination. Diego’s drawings, created in 2019, weave through the photographs like a parallel narrative, fragile, fierce, and luminous, invitino us to see what often goes unseen.
