Atalier was the Bern graphic design studio founded and co-owned by Ata Bozaci, better known in graffiti as TOAST. This slim German-language booklet, self-issued in the studio's own name and in a narrow DL format, belongs to that commercial side of his practice: the portfolio object a young Bernese studio put in the hands of clients rather than a book made for the scene.
Bozaci had graduated from the Schule für Gestaltung in Bern at 22 — his diploma project was a sprayed comic — and by 2000 was moving between two registers that he refused to keep separate: skateboard graphics for Intersport with Büro Destruct, the cover of Fettes Brot's Auf einem Auge blöd, work for the Bern magazine SODA on one side; on the other, the Letter Architecture cycle then in full run (1996–2008), where forced perspective turns lettering into inhabitable structure. He would leave Atalier in 2007 to work purely as an artist, the year Black Ink came out on Publikat and Molotow named a colour after him. This booklet documents the studio years that preceded all of it.
