20 pages Edited by Benjamin Deberdt Photographs by Benjamin Deberdt Designed by Mathieu Becker 28 x 21 cm Language: English Publisher: Self-Published 2018
Benjamin Deberdt has been photographing skateboarding in Paris since the early 1990s, and for most of that time his pictures filled other people's pages, starting with SuGaR, which he launched in 1998, then Kingpin, co-founded in London two years later. This Was Just Now is what he makes without an editor, a sponsor or a deadline. In his own words there is no brand to thank and nobody to add or cut because of a shoe deal, only the photographs he thinks matter.
The cover of the issue #5 lists fifteen names, from Alex Olson and Glen Fox to Joffrey Morel, Olivier "Tavu" Ente, Futoshi Tokuyama and Hiroki Muraoka. They are skaters and people from Deberdt's circle, laid out by Mathieu Becker over 20 pages. If you know Deberdt through the magazines, this is the other side of his archive, the people around skateboarding more than the tricks.
