The Board Culture Exposure is an international competition dedicated to surf, skateboard, and snowboard photography—flagship disciplines of board culture. The first event of its kind in France, B.C.E. was born from a deep desire: to introduce as many people as possible to the photographic masterpieces emerging from this culture, and to highlight the inseparable bond between the athletes and those who document their achievements.
At a time when skateboarding, surfing, and snowboarding are all Olympic disciplines, this inaugural edition of Board Culture Exposure takes place on the Basque Coast, in the heart of one of the temples of surf culture, in Biarritz. This new cultural and artistic event celebrates enthusiasts of photography and board sports by offering them a new playground and unprecedented visibility. It also aims to showcase, at their true value, the most striking perspectives on skateboard, surf, and snowboard culture by honoring the works of the most talented photographers.
This catalog brings together the 80 photographs exhibited at the Casino de Biarritz, selected by the 11 members of our jury. Added to this series is one final image, the winner of the 2024 People’s Choice Award.
This bold selection was made from more than 2,000 photographs submitted by 200 photographers—both professionals and amateurs—from all over the world (18 nationalities represented). Creativity, aesthetics, performance, and emotion are highlighted across each category.
The Board Culture Exposure festival and the publication you hold in your hands are dedicated to the memory of Bruno Débauché, a spiritual father of board culture and a dear friend.
