Montana Colors pays tribute to John “CRASH” Matos, a pioneering figure of New York graffiti and a key force in the transition of graffiti from train yards to contemporary art spaces. Born and raised in the Bronx, CRASH began painting trains at the age of 13, quickly establishing his name across New York City. By 1980, he moved from the subway system to the gallery world, curating the landmark exhibition Graffiti Art Success for America at Fashion MODA, a defining moment that helped cement graffiti as an enduring art movement.
This limited edition Montana spray can celebrates CRASH’s legacy and influence on graffiti culture. Conceived as both a functional tool and a collectible object, the can stands as a tribute to a writer whose impact continues to resonate from the origins of New York graffiti to the global contemporary art scene.
