Un dernier jour sur terre is a work of fiction that brings together three years of life and silver gelatin photographs illustrating Émilie Désir's various Parisian wanderings from 2022 to 2025. Romain Pereira incorporates collages that bring characters to life in the style of Roger Rabbit, thus blurring the boundaries of time. All the collages draw from numerous references that permeate the book's imagery, taking it on a journey from the 1980s to the present day.
This collaborative work is accompanied by an original short story by Simon Johannin, which underscores the fictional nature of this final day on Earth.
Fiction within reality or reality within fiction?
It is in Paris, a city of hyper-surveillance with a nightmarish atmosphere, that a strange scenario unfolds, filmed in HD, 24/7, in the style of "Loft Story." Since this day on Earth is meant to be an experience, we might as well shape this fictional captivity to reflect our own image, adapting it to our desires, commitments, and values.
Has our last day on Earth become reality?
The aim of this book is to lose ourselves during this last day on Earth, which resembles all others and yet none at the same time. We are the masters of our lives; each day is a fiction in which reality is merely a framework.
