First released in 2015 as the debut title from Hitzerot, Farbzüge quickly stood out as a fresh and atmospheric approach to train photography. Rather than limiting himself to straight station shots, Berlin photographer Emmett Edelstein set out to capture painted S-Bahn carriages as part of the city itself: trains rolling through landscapes, framed by light and architecture, transforming graffiti into fleeting moments of urban theatre.
To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Edelstein has reissued a revised edition of the book, together with a second volume, Schriftzüge. While most of the original content remains, several images have been updated and many are now presented in larger format, allowing the works to breathe on the page. Arranged chronologically by the time of day they were taken, from early morning to night, the sequence creates the impression of a single day-long journey, weaving together years of documentation into one cohesive narrative.
Across 164 pages, the book features works from some of Berlin’s most renowned and influential writers, including ROY1ST, NOAIM, ROGER, KRIPOE, BUZZ, MOAR, and many more. With its open spine binding and the iconic yellow sticker cover referencing cleaning marks used by train operators, Farbzüge remains a landmark in graffiti publishing: an atmospheric, authentic, and now updated portrait of Berlin’s painted trains. Released in parallel with its long-awaited sequel, Schriftzüge, this anniversary edition offers both newcomers and collectors a chance to revisit an underground classic.
