The second volume of Fly Art goes back into the archive Uncle Texaco opened with Vol. 1: the photocopied flyers that announced French hip-hop parties, concerts and radio shows long before anyone thought of keeping them. Forty-six documents from the late 1980s to the mid-1990s, from Dee Nasty on rue Caumartin in 1987 and the Rap Party at the Mairie du 14e to NTM at Espace Bobino, Ministère A.M.E.R. at Espace Ornano and an IZB private party at the Rex Club ahead of Public Enemy's Zénith show.
The map stretches well beyond Paris, through Cergy, Gentilly, Gargenville and Villiers-le-Bel to Toulouse, Bourges, Villeurbanne and Geneva. Alongside the party flyers sit The Zulu's Letter ballot for the Triomphes 89, a mail-order form for the French Zulu Nation t-shirt, radio show cards from Radio Libertaire and F.C.D.R., and a Centre Pompidou programme on rap. Lettering by Salim, Eskiss, Noé 2, Kool G and others, and an illustrated index that dates and locates every document.
"These flyers once announced the future. Today, they're its memory." — Uncle Texaco
