Camping Flash offers a vivid and playful portrait of camping culture in France, a country that accounts for nearly a third of all campsites in Europe. Behind the half-open doors of caravans and motorhomes, photographer François Prost discovers a way of life shaped by closeness, shared rituals, outdoor living and an appealing simplicity.
Once regarded as a modest form of holidaymaking, camping remains one of the few environments where an intense kind of everyday sociability still thrives. Neighbours live only a few metres apart, meals are prepared outdoors, paths cross at communal facilities, and daily routines become part of a collective experience. Despite increasingly comfortable facilities and the growth of permanent accommodation, Prost finds that the essential spirit of French camping has changed remarkably little.
Since 2022, François Prost has travelled across France photographing campers through the doors of their caravans and motorhomes, while also documenting the colours, objects, architecture and small details that define these temporary communities. The resulting images capture a distinctive summer culture filled with humour, lightness and nostalgia, transforming the familiar world of the campsite into an affectionate visual study of contemporary France.
