Freddy Alva’s history of the crossover between graffiti and New York hardcore in the 1980s and 1990s: writers who played in bands, band members who wrote, and the crews that carried both. It is told through interviews and first-hand accounts, with Chaka Malik, Mackie Jayson, Lord Ezec and Sacha Jenkins among many others, and through the scene’s own paper: record and demo tape covers, flyers, T-shirts, black books. The cover photograph was taken by Richard Unhoch in the backyard of ABC No Rio in 1990.
The first edition, published by DiWulf in 2017, sold out. Radio Raheem reissued it in 2018, expanded with an interview with REVS, a chapter on NYHC graffiti tattoos with INK, VERS and Steven Huie, and a flexi 7" by two NYHC graffiti bands, Crazy Eddie and Johatsu.
