Published for Gérard Zlotykamien’s exhibition at the Wilhelm-Hack-Museum in Ludwigshafen am Rhein, held from 17 July to 29 August 1993, this catalogue documents his spray-painted Éphémères. Reduced to wavering outlines and floating faces, these figures inhabit urban walls as fragile traces of human presence. The accompanying German text, “Die Schatten,” considers their relationship to urban perception, historical violence and the shadow of Hiroshima.
Prepared by Lida von Mengden and the artist, with photographs by Christoph Maisenbacher. Original photographic wrappers reproduce an intervention at Chopinstraße/Karlstraße in Leipzig, May 1992. A period exhibition publication documenting Zlotykamien’s practice at the intersection of drawing, public space and remembrance.
