Marseille, not Paris — which is the point. Damien Leclère founded the house in 2006, arrived in the city the following year and opened the urban art market there alongside Tito, with a first street art sale in 2008. By 2010 the format was established and the catalogues had weight. Where Artcurial approached the field from the Champs-Élysées, Leclere built its sales out of a southern scene that had its own writers, its own dealers and, shortly after, its own gallery in Tito's Backside.
Paintings, drawings, editions, sculpture and mixed media, running from the New York foundations to the European scene that grew out of them: Taki 183 and Stay High 149 at the origin, then Seen, Quik, T-Kid 170, Cope2, CES and Indie 184, alongside Noe Two, Speedy Graphito and Robert Sgarra on the French side. The mix is the interesting part — first-generation tags and contemporary studio work priced in the same room, at a moment when nobody was sure how to value either.
