Between 1990 and 2010, Maï Lucas turned her lens on the heart of New York’s hip-hop generation, from Harlem to the Bronx, from Jones Beach to East New York. Her photographs capture a pivotal moment in time, when African-American and Hispanic youth were redefining beauty, pride, and identity on their own terms.
With sensitivity and rare proximity, Lucas documents a culture before its global explosion: raw, poetic, and free from commercial codes. Her portraits radiate dignity and joy, revealing a community whose creativity found expression in dance, style, and everyday life.
All Eyes On Me is both a visual love letter to the pioneers of street culture and a historical testimony to a time when individuality became a form of resistance.
Born in Paris to a Vietnamese mother and a French father, Maï Lucas grew up between worlds. Immersed in hip-hop since her teenage years, she developed a singular photographic voice: one rooted in empathy, authenticity, and the celebration of human grace.
