A landmark tribute to one of Europe’s most emblematic graffiti chapters.
In 2001, after a decade spent on the French railway lines, Opak and the SDK crew step away from trains, swept into the legal machinery of the time. Twelve years later, as the SNCF accelerates the scrapping of its most iconic models and declares the end of the legendary petits gris, a last call echoes. Opak sets out on a mission: paint these trains one final time before they disappear forever.
In Painted Graves Volume I, Olivier Scuro reconstructs this quest like a field logbook, unveiling its roots in the 1990s through extensive archival material. Volume II digs deeper; an homage to companions gone too soon: Risk (Finland), Stone (France), Remo (Switzerland), Math (Netherlands), Nesh (Austria), Choc (Belgium), Ruzd (Germany), and Aone (United States). A journey of memories, travels, flashbacks, and a mission reaching its end. Most of the trains, painted or not, have now vanished as well.
Together, the two volumes gather548 pages and 342 photographs, accompanied by 100 pages of narrative in both French and English.
