Teren Alchemia ("Field Alchemy") is the first monograph devoted to French artist Pablo Tomek. Working in the wake of graffiti rather than within it, Tomek intervenes on what the street has already discarded — tyres, abandoned mattresses, manhole covers — with a tag or a few strokes of paint, just enough to pull the object out of its background and hold it there. The gesture is minimal and unmistakably his: thick, fast scribbles in blunt colour, closer to a signature than to an image. Alongside the works, the book documents a series of his détournements on the streets of Paris and includes an introduction to his practice in French and English.
