Path to Insurrection is a photobook on four years of political unrest in Washington, D.C., from election night 2016 to Joe Biden’s inauguration on 20 January 2021. Chris Suspect, a street photographer based in the city, shot it in black and white from inside the crowds: Trump’s inauguration, the Women’s March, the protests of 2017–2020 and, on 6 January 2021, the rally that ended with the attack on the Capitol, where he followed the mob up to the police lines on the west side of the building.
The book was published for “Insurrezioni – Fotografie di una protesta” at Flashback Habitat in Turin (29 February – 3 June 2024, curated by Jacopo Buranelli) and gathers the 115 photographs shown there, with a foreword by Reuters photo editor Jim Bourg.
