An artist’s book by Duncan Weston inspired by the traditional graffiti practice of collecting drawings and outlines in piece books and black books. Presented in a display-book format, the publication contains over 269 outlines drawn by the artist during a heatwave, exploring his name through an extensive vocabulary of graffiti lettering. The repeated name is continually reworked through tags, pieces, dimensional lettering and increasingly elaborate graphic constructions, forming an extended study of style, rhythm and letterform. Each drawing is presented on a removable sheet, allowing it to be coloured or individually framed. The informal, interactive format recalls the way drawings were traditionally collected, exchanged and preserved within graffiti culture. Signed by the artist, Piece book documents Weston’s distinctive and highly personal approach to graffiti lettering.
