Jordan Nickel started painting in Chicago in 1992, came up through the city's golden age of graffiti, then went and took a painting degree at the Kansas City Art Institute in 2004 — a trajectory that explains why POSE's work sits so uneasily between a wall and a canvas. He's been in MSK and The Seventh Letter for two decades, and his pieces carry as much sign-painting and Lichtenstein as they do letterforms: flat colour fields, comic-book hands, layered graphics that look printed until you get close enough to see the spray.
Zine #1 pulls together more than ten years of that back-and-forth, street work and studio work set side by side across 44 full-colour pages. No gallery framing, no essay, just the pictures in the order POSE wanted them.
