Written when he was just eighteen, Tu t’es toujours trompé (You’ve Always Been Wrong) is the furious outcry of a young man refusing the lies of the world. At once a philosophical manifesto and a poetic incantation, it shatters every “closed system of abstractions” to reclaim thought as something living, bound to the body, to experience, to revolt.
Daumal calls for awakening through refusal: “The man who has always accepted everything is as if asleep… He must be dazzled by a furious ‘No!’ and let the fire of ‘Why?’ burn his throat. That will be the awakening.”
Unpublished during Daumal’s lifetime (1908–1944), this incandescent text, rediscovered a century later, reads today with startling urgency. Both prophecy and initiation manual, it is a reminder that true thinking begins in rebellion, and that lucidity is a form of resistance.
