A photo book on fifteen years of beach art by Sam Dougados: drawings raked into the sand at low tide, then photographed before the water takes them back. Dougados came across the practice in a surf video and, by his own account the first in France to take it up, started on the beaches of Biarritz in 2008. The book gathers around 150 works from the Basque and Landes coast and some ten countries (South Africa, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Ireland, Bermuda), with his notes on where each came from: the line of a rock, a puddle, Moroccan zellige, Portuguese azulejos, and in the recent pieces the letterforms of graffiti, taken out of the city and set against the sea. The rake replaces the can, the tide does the buffing, and the photographs are the only record.
