Van Brooklyn Naar Breukelen: 20 jaar hiphop in Nederland was published in 2002 by the Nationaal Pop Instituut as the first written history of hip-hop in the Netherlands. Edited by Saul van Stapele, a journalist from The Hague who has written on pop culture for NRC since 2004, it covers twenty years of Dutch rap, DJing, breaking and graffiti through interviews with key figures of the scene, laid out like a magazine; parts of it first appeared in Nieuwe Revu. An illustrated discography with record covers closes the book.
It came with a CD of tracks from 1988 to 2002, including hard-to-find recordings by Extince, DAMN and 24K. The title plays on the fact that Brooklyn took its name from Breukelen, a village near Utrecht: twenty years on, a culture born in New York had come home under a Dutch name.
