Paris around 2000: façades, shutters and walls carry trompe-l’œil, figurative murals, abstract painting and graffiti. Sophie Masson photographs them so that painted space and real street meet in the same frame, with monumental drapery and invented perspectives breaking up buildings most people walk past. The selection includes works by Mesnager, Nemo, Folon, Ben, Cueco, Combas and Soulié, alongside anonymous contributions. Huguette de Broqueville’s texts read these images one by one. It belongs in a shop like ours because it fixes a moment of the city’s walls, with graffiti sitting next to trompe-l’œil, at a point when these interventions were still a common sight in the street.
