Dense foliage, flowing contours and fields of colour evoke the tropical landscapes of Queensland in Tropico. Developed from Tellas’s travels in northeastern Australia, the works translate observations of mangroves, eucalyptus, banksia and palms into compositions that move between botanical detail and abstraction. Fine repeated lines and clusters of small marks sit within larger shapes, suggesting the layered growth and shifting light of a forest.
The project brings together memories of landscape through colour, pattern and rhythm. Across paintings and works on paper, recognisable natural forms dissolve into overlapping fragments, creating spaces that feel both expansive and densely inhabited. White openings interrupt the vegetation like light passing through a canopy, while darker passages give the compositions depth. The accompanying texts place this body of work within Tellas’s continuing exploration of nature and its transformation into a personal visual language.
