The flagship culture magazine of Montana Colors — the Barcelona spray-paint house (MTN, est. 1994) — returning after a pandemic hiatus with its most ambitious issue to date. Where earlier numbers ranged widely, this fifth edition puts street graffiti at the centre in every register: from Craig Costello's Krink drips and Mosa87's handstyles to the Throw Up Cult's bubble letters and Asmoe's sharp lettering, opening out to the more elaborate work of Jero, AKA Corleone and Senk CMS. More than twenty-five international writers are gathered across a monumental run of pages, framed as a portrait of expression in a post-pandemic world.
The issue is built in three acts — The Start, The Basis and The Ending. Its centrepiece, The Basis, functions as a graffiti compendium: dedicated sections on hand-styles, throw-ups, city hang-outs from Barcelona and Madrid to Berlin, Milano and the Bay Area, and a "Pen Pals" chapter reviving the postal culture of pre-internet writing. Produced to book standard and distributed free through Montana Colors' network rather than sold, it is among the most lavish brand-published graffiti magazines of its moment — closer to a bilingual survey volume than a giveaway.
